“Our philosophy is likely more aggressive than other lawyers; We find that our success record for taking a case to trial actually helps us settle cases when that course of action is best for our client.”

Brian Flood

Trial Lawyer for the Injured

Most personal-injury cases do not go to trial.
That is precisely why trial lawyers matter.

At The Flood Law Firm, our philosophy is more aggressive than most—and intentionally so. We have learned over decades of litigation that insurance companies only respond to one thing: the credible threat of a jury trial. Our record of actually trying cases gives us leverage. That leverage forces fair settlements when settlement is in our client’s best interest—and it wins verdicts when it is not.

A Career Built in the Courtroom

Attorney Brian M. Flood has dedicated his entire legal career to representing injured people and holding insurance companies accountable. Inspired by his father to become a lawyer and advocate, Brian learned early two enduring truths:

  1. The court system is difficult for injured people to navigate alone.
  2. The best results are obtained by lawyers who are prepared to go to trial.

By choice, Brian has never represented an insurance company. He has spent more than 25 years on one side of the courtroom—standing with injured individuals and families. Over the course of his career, Brian has settled thousands of cases and tried approximately 200 cases to verdict, a level of trial experience that remains increasingly rare.

That experience matters. Insurance companies know which lawyers actually try cases and which ones do not. They adjust their offers accordingly.

Why Being a Trial Lawyer Matters

Insurance companies are rational economic actors. They evaluate risk.
A lawyer who never goes to trial presents little risk.

A lawyer with a proven trial record presents real exposure—to unpredictable juries, public verdicts, and substantial financial consequences. That exposure is what creates leverage. And leverage is what changes outcomes.Brian prepares every case as if it will be tried before a jury. That approach does not make cases harder to resolve—it makes them resolve properly. When settlement is appropriate, Brian’s trial reputation helps secure full and fair compensation. When it is not, he is prepared to do what many lawyers cannot: pick a jury and try the case.

Leadership in the Trial Lawyer Community

Brian is widely respected within the legal profession for his courtroom skill, leadership, and commitment to trial advocacy. He serves on the Board of Governors and Executive Committee of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and has been recognized repeatedly for excellence in trial practice.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the most selective professional organizations in the legal profession, and holds the designation of Civil Trial Advocate from the National Board of Trial Advocacy. In 2025, Brian received the National Board of Trial Advocacy President’s Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to trial advocacy.

His prior honors include the T. Paul Tremont Award from the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association—presented to lawyers who demonstrate exceptional tenacity in fighting for injured people against insurance companies—and multiple recognitions by Super Lawyers, including designation among the Top 50 Lawyers in Connecticut and Top 100 in New England.

“Insurance companies do not pay fair compensation out of goodwill. They pay because they are forced to—and that force comes from trial readiness.” Brian Flood

The Flood Law Firm

Before founding The Flood Law Firm with his brother, Christopher J. Flood, Brian was a partner at a prominent personal-injury litigation firm. The brothers share a simple belief: without the right lawyer, insurance companies take advantage of people.

The firm was built around a trial-first mindset—focused on preparation, credibility, and accountability. Every case is handled with the understanding that it may ultimately be decided by six citizens in a jury box.

Community and Personal Life

Brian grew up in Portland, Connecticut, and continues to live there today. He served his community for 12 years on the Portland Board of Selectmen and remains actively involved in local civic life. He enjoys spending time with his wife and their three children.
