The Flood Law Firm is pleased to announce that Attorney Alec Bates was involved in the End Distracted Driving (EDD) presentation as the chair of CTLA’s Young Lawyers’ Committee. This interactive, scientifically-guided and evidence-based program is designed to bring awareness to the public about the dangers of distracted driving and encourage safer driving behavior.
The speaker, Joel Feldman, lost his 21-year-old daughter Casey in 2009 at the hands of a distracted driver. Feldman has been a practicing attorney for more than three decades and regularly represents injured victims or surviving family members of distracted driving accidents. Feldman readily admits that even after years of representing victims, he frequently drove distracted - until his daughter lost her life.
Since January 2012, Joel has personally given nearly 400 presentations to over 275,000 people across the U.S. and Canada. Past audience members have applauded the program’s effectiveness, mainly for the way Joel presents his personal story.
Joel is direct and honest in speaking of his family’s tragedy and does so in a conversational tone, as opposed to a lecture. He is also solution-oriented and does not accuse people or make them feel guilty for distracted driving habits. Despite the serious subject matter, the presentation is upbeat and focuses on what each of us can do to prevent distracted driving.

Audience feedback proves how effective the program is. Many say they consciously take measures to stop these potentially deadly driving habits immediately after completing the program.

This distracted driving awareness program may very well save a life – including yours and those closest to you. The Flood Law Firm is proud to support this and similar projects that make our roadways safer and help to avert tragedies.

More information about the presentation and EDD’s work can be found at enddd.org. This month Joel Feldman spoke to members of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. Based on the information presented, Alec will make similar presentations to high schools and community organizations throughout Connecticut to spread the word about the potentially disastrous outcomes of distracted driving.
